Vocations Ministry: Our goal is to create a vocations-friendly environment that engages our parish community and inspires families to encourage, support, and call forth vocations. We honor and support those already in Holy Orders or Consecrated Life. We spiritually adopt through prayer those discerning and those already on the path to ordination or final vows. We pray for and encourage those who select sacramental marriage and those who choose the single life as their vocations.

Environment

The members of this group assist in the planning, preparing, and
decorating of our Church throughout the Liturgical Year. They create an
environment that is welcoming and sacred, one that evokes a prayerful
atmosphere to anybody who visits our Church. Either as a gathered community of believers, or alone in prayer, the environment can lead us to a prayerful mode that ultimately provides opportunities for us to experience and encounter Jesus. Throughout the Liturgical Year, our environment is transformed according to season. While the members of this group have been blessed with a passion to decorate, we also need help in this ministry to recreate, set up or take down, and even assist with the heavy work. If you don’t want to commit to the details of the ministry but want to help, simply watch the bulletin for upcoming opportunities to join us.

If you are interested in supporting this ministry, please call the office
at 402-895-0808 or Sue Gloe at 402-889-5748 for more information.

Adoration

Adoration – Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love “In the sacred Host, He is present, the true treasure, always waiting for us. Only by adoring this Presence do we learn how to receive Him properly.” Jesus waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament. He waits for our little acts of faith, adoration, love, thanksgiving, repentance, reparation and charity that we can offer Him as we contemplate –His Divine Majesty –in the Blessed Sacrament. A commitment of one hour per week is all it requires, or you may volunteer to be an alternate. No training is required, only a desire to spend time with Our Lord.

Altar Servers

Daniel Horak
djhorak2@cox.net

Servers are an important part of the celebration for the Mass, preparing the altar prior to Mass, directly assisting the celebrant during Mass, and resetting the altar for the next Mass. Boys and girls are eligible to train when they reach fifth grade, and may serve through graduation from high school.

Eucharistic Ministers

Brian Lichter

EMHCforSJV@gmail.com

Possessing a clearly defined understanding of the presence of Jesus in the consecrated bread and wine, Eucharistic Ministers share their faith openly with the community through their participation in the Mass by distributing Precious Body and Precious Blood.

Individuals who have been mandated by the Archdiocese of Omaha are invited to become an EMHC. For new EMHCs, the formal instruction and mandation ceremony is held by the diocese. Training is also given from our parish EMHC coordinator. High school students who are juniors or seniors are eligible to become EMHCs. Volunteer EMHCs are also needed to distribute communion to our homebound parishioners.

There is a one-night training session in August at several locations, and a one-night Mandation at the Cathedral in August. There is also a one-night training at Saint John Vianney. Dates are available by calling the office at 402-895-0808.

Lectors/Commentators

Cher Slavik

cher.slavik1@gmail.com

Not unlike the twelve apostles, lectors share an earnest desire to proclaim God’s word. This spiritual closeness to the beauty and importance of God’s word, is not only proclaimed, but shared and passed on to every member of the congregation with each reading.

Those who are high school age and up, who have little or no fear of speaking before large groups of people will attend a training session through the Archdiocese and attend the mandation ceremony. The lector coordinator at SJV will then meet with the new lectors for additional training.

Music Ministry

Church Office
(402) 895-0808

What a beautiful way to participate in the Mass and share with your fellow parishioners one of the talents God has blessed you with. All you need to participate in this ministry is an interest in music. There are opportunities for musicians of all age groups and of all abilities to share their talents with the community. No auditions are required and all are welcome.

Ushers

Rick Lowery
402-896-1147

This is a unique and special ministry for men and women in the parish who would like to take on an active leadership role at Mass. Ushers actively participate in the Mass, seating people, taking up collections, orchestrating the offertory procession, assisting in the orderly distribution of communion and passing out bulletins.
