My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I pray that you had a great Memorial Day weekend.  We continue to remember all those who died while serving in our military and their families as well as praying for all our men and women who continue to serve our country.

With the conclusion of our school and religious education programs, we now enter into our summer schedule.  Please note that we will offer Vacation Bible School and the Tutus Tuus Program during June and July.  Please see our bulletin for more information.

With our summer schedule beginning this week, our Parish and School offices will be closed on Fridays.  Both Parish Offices will be open Monday to Thursday from 8am to 4pm and the school office hours will be Monday to Thursday from 9 to 3pm.  Please note that for the month of July the school office will be closed.

We will use the summer months to clean classrooms and prepare them for the upcoming school year.  We will also take the time to go through our campus and make the necessary repairs for what is needed to be done.  In addition to our scheduled maintenance and repairs, we will be undertaking the following projects this summer:

  • Cabling our school classrooms and installing a new intercom system for our school.  This will Improve communications throughout our Parish Campus and better integration with security protocols.
  • Replacing our heating boilers at Mary Our Queen School.  Our current boiler system is over forty years old and well beyond its expected life span.  Replacing the boiler system will significantly improve our efficiency and address both operational needs and long-term stewardship of our facilities.
  • Removing the old boilers and converting that space into a storage room.  This is made possible with the relocation of the new boilers in the mechanical room in the Kenny Center.
  • Upgrading of four classrooms at Mary Our Queen School.  The classroom upgrades will include new flooring, ceiling tiles, lighting and a video projector in each classroom.  Over the last three years, we were able to upgrade the classrooms in the lower level of our school, and we hope to have all our classrooms in our main school building upgraded within three years.
  • Removing the old vent fan in the gym that is no longer working nor needed with the installation of HVAC system, and sealing up both the interior and exterior walls where the vent fan is removed within the next two weeks.
  • ·Resurfacing the driveways on the east side of the campus.

We managed to work on the grounds of the preschool area a week ago.  This includes filling out all the low spots in the playground to improve drainage and to reseed/sod the grounds.

In regard to the bell tower at St John Vianney, after the initial review, there is a recommendation to do a basic structural analysis of the tower framing to understand how the tower displaces due to design wind loading.  This analysis should help us to provide recommendations for repair and/or reinforcement.

We have retrofitted most of the lighting in the parking lot at St John Vianney with new LED lighting the last two weeks.  We are currently retrofitting all our existing bollard lighting with new LED lighting.  With more and more of the ballast on those lights burning out, retrofitting it with LEDs not only makes it simpler but also brings about cost savings in our electricity bill.

As always, we continue to make improvements and updates to our Parish facilities.

Blessings for the summer, Fr Marc
